$500 Representation: Our firm is one of the few that will accept what are known as "unbundled" cases (available only in family court, by law). This is when an attorney is hired for only a specific aspect of the case. Representation then ends after the agreed-upon tasks have been completed. For example, those that are representing themselves often want the protection, guidance and assistance of an attorney when they actually go before the Judge. Often times, parties a just too nervous or emotional to handle a Court appearance themselves. $500 is our fee for basic motion hearings (the most common task in Court). Evidentiary hearings and trial cost more as they are generally a half day or full day in duration. For those that need their Court documents drafted we can also do that for an additional fee, generally beginning at $500.

Uncontested Matters: In the case of an uncontested divorce or annulment, we charge a flat fee of $1,500. This includes all attorney’s fees, Court costs and filing fees. It requires parties to "accept service" (rather than be "served") and execute all required documents.

Retainer: The more traditional attorney-client relationship is one where the attorney is hired to handle all aspects of your case for an indefinite period of time. This includes filing all Court documents, appearing at all hearings and handling all communications with opposing counsel. Our typical retainer is $3,000-$5,000 (depending on the complexity of the issues) which is placed into the attorney’s trust account. As work is done, any attorney’s fees and Court costs are billed against that amount. Work done by the attorney is billed at $300 per hour and work done by paralegals is billed at $100 per hour. An invoice is generated at the end of the month. Because our firm utilizes the "evergreen retainer" system, clients are expected to payback the amount billed for the work done. In other words, the retainer account should always have full retainer balance in it–which is refunded at the conclusion of the representation. This method is used because it always ensures that there are always sufficient funds for whatever may occur in the case, including any Court appearances, document drafting, and Court preparation.

Free legal services: This office is proud of it’s pro bono efforts. Attorney Carr has received awards from the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada and commendations from both Senator Reid and Senator Ensign for his pro bono work. This office only accepts cases from those truly in need and thus only accepts cases from the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, which screens clients before placement and educates them about the process. Clients should not request placement with our office when contacting LACSN as this office contacts LACSN when pro bono cases can be accommodated. Attorney Carr also volunteers regularly at the "Ask A Lawyer" program at the Clark County Family Courthouse. This program provides free 15-minute consultations with attorneys every Thursday afternoon. Reservations must be made and the spaces fill quickly.
